Primary and secondary food
Useful tips/22 January 2021

The main meal is more than what’s on your plate.
Core food is everything that touches all areas of your life that nourish your mind, body and spirit. These factors influence our multi-dimensional health and well-being, and when staple foods are balanced and satiating, your life is nourished.
There are 12 types of basic life areas:
- health
- spirituality
- relationships
- finances
- society
- education
- career
- physical activity
- body nutrition
- living environment
- creativity
- joys/pleasure
It is important to remember that these spheres are individualized. That is, what each person needs to feel fulfilled in each sphere will be different for everyone.
As for secondary foods, these are the regular foods we consume.
There are many factors that influence what we eat and when. Some factors can be controlled, others cannot.
These factors include:
- our psychological and physical health
- lifestyle
- environment
- location
- culture
- social life
- economy
- personal knowledge and beliefs
Specific health conditions, dietary restrictions, and food sensitivities to certain foods influence your food choices, and stress can trigger a need that encourages you to seek out unhealthy options.
Staying away from farmer’s markets, grocery stores can affect your food choices because of convenience and accessibility. Who you spend time with can also greatly affect your diet, as humans tend to adopt similar eating habits from those around them.
Humans are multifaceted, so we need more than just food to truly feel life. Don’t forget that food is an important part of existence, but your health doesn’t just depend on what’s on your plate.
You can eat all the broccoli and greens in the world and have a "perfect" secondary plate, but if your main meal isn’t balanced - your mind, body and spirit will never feel as full and alive as they could.
