Grocery basket - December
Focus of the month/12 December 2022

In Ukrainian cuisine, winter is greeted with a stock of traditional vegetables, root vegetables, long-preserved fruits. We use root vegetables in a variety of ways, adding them to thick borscht, rich soups, stews, spicy porridges. Apples and pears, which are stored for a long time, we eat raw, bake, make homemade pies with them on Sundays.
For the cold season Ukrainians stock up from mid-summer and eat them until the new season. They use fermentation/fermentation - the most ancient and useful way of preserving food, unlike marinade, which is based on a lot of sugar and vinegar.
During the cold season, the diet becomes warmer and more nutrient dense. Warm up with teas with spicy ginger, spicy cocoa, for a snack choose nuts. Do not forget to drink enough water, dry air and a lot of warm clothes accelerate the likelihood of dehydration.
In general, the change in temperature outside the window does not need radical changes in food. The main thing is to follow the rules of healthy eating, to have a varied and familiar diet, one that is comfortable and enjoyable for you.
